Grades and progression
From Keups to Dans: the grades of the Mom Ki Do Kwan Moosool, their belts and the technical syllabus.
Progression at the Mom Ki Do Kwan Moosool is organised in two stages: the Keups, from the 9th (beginner) down to the 1st, which lead to the black belt; then the Dans, the black-belt grades. Each grade has its own belt and a technical syllabus to pass.
The belt system
The belts are two-coloured and have no stripe. The colour progresses from white to black, through yellow, green, blue and red. Between two solid colours, the transition is made by a belt blending the two shades — the student thus moves from one colour to the next through an intermediate two-colour grade.
The Keups
The nine Keups are taken in descending order, from the 9th down to the 1st.

The Dans
The black belt ⬛ opens the Dan grades, which come with titles within the school.

The technical syllabus
Each grade has a syllabus to pass at the grading. The techniques are grouped into families that grow richer and more complex as you progress: breathing, footwork, falls, kicks, strikes and blocks, releases from grabs, joint locks, throws and sweeps.
The 1st Dan has no new syllabus of its own: it gathers and synthesises all the syllabi from the 9th down to the 1st Keup. The higher Dans then focus on specific themes — weapons, particular defences — proper to each level.
