Sparring

Sparring

An essential aspect and a purpose of the martial arts: what brings us closer to truth.

Sparring is an essential part of practice, and one of the purposes of the martial arts. Without it, technique stays theoretical.

Sparring, a path towards truth

Sparring is what comes closest to the truth. Where a codified drill can give the illusion of mastery, real opposition does not lie: it reveals what works and what does not hold. It is in this confrontation that pure self-defence appears — defence stripped of any artifice.

To face it is to accept seeing yourself as you are, and to progress from that honest assessment.

What we practise

We practise striking with punches, kicks and throws: blows from the upper and lower limbs, completed by the throws drawn from our gripping work. This combination keeps the link between striking, close-quarters grappling and the ground, and keeps practice close to the reality of a confrontation.
